By entering primary school the child goes through the second greatest change in his life (the first was entering the kindergarten). The role of the child, the environment, adults and peers, the daily schedule, the content of the activities change, and also the demands and requirements of the school and parents change. The child should be sufficiently mature and well-prepared so he can cope with this difficult situation without serious problems.
According to the most recent research, current pedagogical theory refers to the school’s preparedness as a comprehensive concept of school readiness. This is conditioned by the upbringing and the previous educational environment in the family and kindergarten. The part of the school readiness is school maturity of the child (physical, psychological, social and emotional), as well as the level of knowledge, skills, habits and management of social rules.
Shool preparedness means achieving such level in physical and mental development that enables the child to manage all the demands and requirements of the school.
